Jacob L. Burkett, age 84, of Mansfield, formerly of Smithsburg, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Green Home in Wellsboro. He married the love of his life, Betty L. (Reed) Burkett, on June 9, 1962, sharing an incredible 63 years of marriage together. Born April 15, 1941, in Smithsburg, MD, he was a son of the late Jacob & Carrie (Brandt) Burkett.
Jacob had a great work ethic and was known as a dedicated, hardworking, and meticulous man, serving as a master mechanic with the local #542 union for 50 years. He also had a keen eye for detailing vehicles and enjoyed traveling, spending a lot of time in Maryland and Florida. His greatest passion in life was his family, either as a devoted husband and father, busy and involved grandfather, or the favorite uncle. Jacob cherished his family and always made time for them. His hardworking, generous, and humorous personality will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty L. (Reed) Burkett, of Mansfield; children, Terri Burkett, of New York, and Greg (Sue) Burkett, of Ponte Vedra, FL; grandchildren, BJ (Stephanie) Thomas, Nicole (Nick) Johnson, Kristen Cress, Thomas Burkett and Connor Burkett; great grandchildren, Ava and Zane; a brother, John Burkett, and a sister, Betty Thomas; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Randy) Wisner and Nancy (Mike) Heaton; several nieces & nephews; and many dear friends.
In keeping with Jacob's wishes, his funeral services and burial will be held privately at his family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jacob's name to either the Mansfield Firemen's Ambulance Association, 381 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA 16933, or a local food bank of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Wilston-Currie Funeral Home, Mansfield, www.wilstoncurriefh.com.
